Well August rolled around and found me a little closer to home. I spent the afternoon of Friday the 14th in Des Moines at the world famous Iowa State fair. I set up post at the Iowa Horse Council Booth until evening when I prepared to hop on Shelby's horse, Tucker, for an introduction prior to the Cowgirl Queen contest. When my work was done, I got to sit back and relax and watch all of the beautiful outfits, and ladies, compete for the title of Cowgirl Queen.
Saturday morning, Sherry Davis invited me to sit in the WW Livestock Systems booth to sign autographs and pose for photos with fair-goers. Then I was off to prepare my showing shoes for the Governor's Charity Steer Show. I watched while Kelly Landman and her family, who owned my steer Boogie, got him all polished up for the show. Then it was off to the ring! For not having any experience showing cattle, I like to think I handled it alright and it must have paid off, as I was selected the People's Choice winner! Thank you to the Northwest Iowa Cattlemen's Association for sponsoring me and giving me this wonderful opportunity. Congratulations to Shelby for being picked for the top 10 with her Steer, Big Man.
Until next time, Happy Trails!
Lindsey
